Al has been running for over 35 years. He accidentally entered his first Ultra Race
in 2010 when he was taking part in a charity challenge he had set himself. He had
challenged himself to run 1000km of race mileage over a year. When he didn’t get
an entry into the Great North Run half marathon (his furthest distance event back
then) he found another race on the same weekend and it turned out to be a 40 mile
Ultra Race in the Peak District. Since then he became an Ultra Runner and enjoys
running long distances. Al has completed the Marathon des Sables (2013) - 152 miles,
self supported footrace across the Sahara Desert. And this year (2015) completed
the Montane Spine Challenger Race- 108 miles under 60 hours along the Pennine Way
in the depths of Winter. He is also part of the Team Buff UK and is supported by
a local Cross-Fit Gym - Delta Fox.
More challenges for 2015 are the South Downs Way 100, The Fellsman, The Ring o Fire
(A lap of the coastal path around Anglesey) and no doubt many more.
